Hi, I'm Saleem Malkana
Reforge Executive in Residence // Customer-obsessed product leader // Looking for my ideal next team and role
I'm an entrepreneurial product executive with an expertise in consumer products and product platforms. I love building teams and rallying around a cohesive product vision that is based on the customer and their needs and wants. I love big ideas, but also think the best ideas are the ones shipped, in customers' hands, and continuously improving.
I'm currently an Executive in Residence at Reforge, which I think is the absolute best career development platform for top-tier professionals in Growth and Product. I lead the Product Strategy and Product Leadership programs, helping PMs, Directors, and VPs of Product improve their strategy and team leadership skills.
I'm currently exploring opportunities in product advising and full-time product + growth leadership roles. So please email me with any questions.
Prior to Reforge, I led product, design, and user research for the digital side of news at NBCU: NBC News, MSNBC, and other brands that combined reach over 140M users monthly. I structured and built a team of 20+ to innovate and iterate on the customer experience, editorial tools, and the product platform that powers these far-reaching news brands.
Previously, I was the founding head of product & design at AMC Networks’ DTC startup, helping to build subscription services 0 to 1(shoutout Shudder and Sundance Now). It was exciting to be on a rocketship of a startup as the fourth hire and to grow from 0 to over 1M subscribers.
I've been privileged enough to lead responsive web products for the MTV VMAs, lead iOS product at Amazon Prime Video, and be part of healthcare and aerospace projects in the past.
My recent speaking engagements include "Lessons in Establishing a Test & Learn Culture and "The Importance of Customer Centricity" which I'd love for you to check out and give me feedback on. It was also great to give an AMA on all things Subscription with House of Kaizen, speak on the future of news, and give a fireside chat at Subscription Show.
University of Michigan MBA 2012 (Go Blue!) and Cornell University B.S. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering 2006
I'm also involved with Asian Americans in Media, which I helped to start in NYC in 2018, and Bhangra Teams' Forum, which I started in 2009.
